my duck (rouen/pekin cross) is on day 30 and stop all movement today even with lots of stimuli. a friend that raised ducks told me to put a breathing hole in the air cell...so i did. After much stimuli the duckling started to move....that was at 10am this morning. As the day progressed all signs of life ceased again....so I tried tapping the egg while candling it and the poor things body didn't move at all...so my friend told me to assist again at 6pm central time..he walked me up to this point (see the pic) and now he is unavailable and i'm all alone with this chick & don't know what to do next, i'm horrified!!!

The duckling had a very little bit of liquid come from its mouth in the very beginning (like 1 bubble), but no liquid from its nose. He is breathing now. His yolk is still there and his veins are still red. There is another egg as well, but it seems to be doing ok far...moving and chirping periodically. PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME...

I wish I knew more - I haven't ever been a hatcher - I have picked up a few things from reading, but those I listed - and many more - have done quite a bit of duck hatching. Here is another thread with advice from @QuackerJackFarms

    https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/...ernally-3-days-ago-but-no-external-pip-yet/10

and a general waterfowl incubation guideline thread, https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/491013/goose-incubation-hatching-guide-completed

There is a reference in the second link to "capping" - that might help.

@Amykins do you have any ideas?

Duckee, you can send private messages. Some members are comfortable with that, some less so… using the @ in front of a member's name helps get an alert to them so you can call attention to a post. If you wrote @Amiga in a post, I would receive an email notification. But that is because I have it set to do so.

From what I have read, even an "easy hatch" exhausts the little ducklings. They need time to rest. And humidity, you need some, but don't want to have too much. The waterfowl hatching thread includes mention of that, I believe.

I had a duck egg from my duck on the counter top. I put a pip hole in it, cut it as close as i could to the size needed, drained the egg out....then I boiled it and fit it the best I could. I had to put a small piece of paper towel on the little spot that was still exposed...which is further down the body. Does this look correct?????[IMG]
