Baby chick just self hatched about 10 minutes ago. I am not sure what is hanging out of the baby's behind....but I am worried. Any words of wisdom? I have never seen this happen before! Baby is very active and chirping. Sorry for the gory pictures...

Looks like possibly the intestines. You should move your thread to the emergency forum for more help

Mine had unabsorbed yolk, I thought it was intestines (it wasnt), it was very red at first.
Look up how to make a cup-daiper for chicks to absorb the yolk... I can't think of a better way to word it, pretty tired here :p
But basically your chick needs time to absorb, and needs to be kept away from other chicks so that her rear doesn't get pecked at.
If you have any stop bleed, I would dab a little with a qtip if she is still bleeding.

If it is what @Raptorchick says just wrap the chick in a warm damp paper towel and keep an eye on her

If its actively bleeding and you don't have stop bleed, you can use cornstarch. I would only do it if it's actively bleeding.

Hi and welcome to BYC :frow

Thank you! This was the first baby to hatch. I will see what I can do for him/her.

Okay, I’m gonna try my best to help you out. Please get a small plastic cup with DRY paper towels in the bottom and place the baby on it and then put it in the incubator. It will absorb in the coming hours.

Thank you. The baby is not bleeding bad but is leaving blood as he/she moves around.
