Help PLEASE?!? Newbie here.
11 day old chick sick (Buff Orp) with 4 others (5 total) in brooder inside w/ light at 89-90 degrees measured in 1 area of brooder, they can get closer/further to get warmer /cooler, on medicated chick feed since day 1.
Had probiotics/enzymes in h2o for first ? week, now regular h2o. On pine shavings since day 3 in a 2'x3' space footprint (actually a tad more since there is a small 'cave/tunnel' made with wire bent like a tunnel).
PROBLEM: starting yesterday, noticed the BO being absent, in cave, on more than a few occasions. When she is up w/ others --who are bright and spry as they should be-- she is listless, eyes wanting to close, head drooping as to fall asleep. Walks fine when does so, no apparent neuro issues; just lethargic, sleeping a lot, not eating/drinking.
Was planning to give eye-dropper water and sugar or honey ? mixture to hydrate.

Would love ANY advise?? As she's going down fast...

Here's a video of set-up (when BO was well):

It's too hot in there.
In the video you can see they are trying to get as far away from that heat lamp as possible.

Are you familiar with coccidiosis?

Re: heat. Thermometer is at 89 and they vacillate between going and sitting right under lamp (together) to going to other side, so ? am remiss to mess with it too much.
Cocci-- they're on medicated feed?? ...?so hmmm. All other chicks fine.
Oh, another mention... when BO is "awake", she goes through motions w/ eyes closed for the most part. I just gave her some water/sugar mix w/ eye dropper and upon stirring her, she opens eyes, but then settles back w/ them shut.

Did you check her for pasty butt too? That can happen when chicks get overheated.
No pasty butt. One did have it a # days ago, cleaned it and has not returned.

Am still learning this forum, so my apologies for not putting things in right spot??
Just wanted to say THANK YOU for your help and ANY help anyone can offer.

I have my 2 week old chicks around 80f... we are in a colder
Climate and the are brooding indoors. They lay together but not on top of each other at night and move about and scratch when awake. Someone on here told me to ditch the thermometer and look at the chicks and seems to be working. When I was at 90 they seemed lethargic and slept more.

Maybe the heating pad cave and light is too much?

Is the poop normal? Is there lots of ventilation in the brooder? Have you given them electrolytes?

I hope it gets better soon!

When a chick goes from well to sick suddenly, they are probably constipated. Not eating and drinking is another clue. I doubt if it's coccidiosis, which would be a 20% chance compared to an 80% chance of constipation being the issue with this BO. If this chick had pasty butt, it's 99% likely it's now constipated.

Chill some coconut oil if you have it. It's much easier and safer to administer to chickens, especially a tiny chick. Measure out one teaspoon of the solid oil. Break off tiny bits and pry the beak open and slip them in. Get all one teaspoon into the chick.
