I notice one of my roosters spur was black and a day or two later his 2 inch spur look like it rotted off to a little black nub. If anybody know what would cause this I would appreciate the info.

Roosters and some hens have a thin "Cap" on top of the inner spur. Sometimes this "cap" is knocked off or "Hulled" by the chicken hitting something hard with the spur. a little ointment (neosporin) will take care of the "Hulled " spur. It may or may not grow back depending on the age of the chicken but it's not going to hurt the chicken except for showing at a poultry show.
