New to the chicken world! I’ve tried comparing pictures online, but silkies are hard. She’s about 20 weeks old from the tractor supply store. She has recently started crowing, so I’m thinking that she is a he. The crows will be at all hours of the day. I read that a rooster less flock, sometimes the dominate hen will begin the crow. We isolated her today (hence the cheaply made pen) to see if that will stop her. Anyone have an idea if she is in fact a he?

I have 1 silkie Male. The wattles on your bird looks like mine. I don't know if you can see any details, but the second pic was taken today. Hearty was hatched April 2019. The white Silkie in the chick photo is also a male.

Thanks. My daughter is going to be devastated. This was “her chicken”
I take it you can't keep a roo where you live? My Silkie is half the volume of my neighbor's barred rock. Hearty sounds like a deflating bagpipe, lol. Silkie boys are also very gentle. They make great pets.

No, we can’t have a roo. He really is so sweet, just too noisy for our neighbors
