Hello All! I need help!

I had 41 chickens until this weekend...

Friday morning we woke up to a funny looking coop...a few of the trim pieces on the door were missing...looks like a person went after it with a shovel. We thought it was strange and that something was trying to get in but didn't...no big thing...right?

Saturday morning...we woke up chickend running about...a small door on the coop was pryed open...metal bracket bent...8 chickens missing!!!!!...down to 33...couldn't find the others anywhere, SOMEONE ate my chickens!!!

This was our FIRST loss! Al; brand new babies this each and each of them made it unitl Saturday. After being very sad we got to work...completely enclosed that door, which was useless (there from the existing building) sheeted the entire inside with plywood. Completely covered the door from the inside, bolted from the outside. The only way in was the "people door", which was brand new and bolted shut at night and the tiny chicken door to go out the the run, which is always closed at night. We BLAST a radio, put wind chimes all over the outside of the coop, etc...Ok, to bed we go...

Sunday morning we wake up and the people DOOR is ripped in half, 11 more chickens missing!!! My chicken run wire is smashed to the ground, there are feathers everywhere, dead chicken parts strewn about and huge claw marks through the siding, part of the wall pushed in a bit, HUGE prints everywhere inside and outside the coop, slimy nose prints on the siding and a giant pile of bear poop on a trail of chicken feathers about 20 feet away. My ducks and geese, which are in a movable chainlink fense run are "smooshed" into a run new the bear made held together only by the wading pool inside.

Everyone is freaked out and half my little chicken buddies are GONE!

I need some advice..three days in a row the bear comes back...every night is worse. Everything is close to my house and this guy is getting REALLY agrressive and it's eating my little farm!

I've got goats and horse too. They are locked in the barn. I need some help from my friends on here, please!

He/She sounds pretty aggressive...I'd call your local Game Commission.

They can best advise what you should do or trap and relocate it for you.

Good luck and keep us posted!

Yep...I will call the DNR tomorrow, they were not in this weekend.

I'm going to post some pic so that you can see what new "pet" did...

Depending on where you live, DNR will trap it for you, and relocate it. Bear proofing is a difficult and expensive process.

My grandparents had the same problem. By the time they were able to take care of it they only had 1 chicken left. I'd do something as soon as you possibly can!!! sorry for your loss! (and here I thought loosing all mine to dogs over the last month was bad.. at least dogs you can shoot!) I'd try and get a permit to shoot the bear. If its relocated it's just gonna end up a problem for someone else.

Yep, it's the "bear proofing" part we need help with. Hopefully the DNR will trap it. There are always more. I'm trying to figure out what to do to deter them in the future. Anyone have any ideas?
