Help! What breed are these chicks?

I rescued these two chicks from a girl who bought them because "they were cute". She then got tired of them and was going to just let them go in some woods behind her house. She couldn't remember the breed. They are about 3 weeks old. My guess is Ameraucana? I'm also pretty sure that the darker one is a rooster.

Neither bird is an Ameraucana. Were they purchased from a retail store/hatchery or a private person/
