I joined today because I’m worried about my last little leg horn. She is 4 years old and has always been a very reliable layer but she has stopped laying. She has a dirty butt so I’m giving her the molasses water like normally. I saw on here a recipe and got all the ingredients except the Selinium. Could someone please tell me what this is and where to get it? Floppy Top doesn’t seem to be responding to the molasses like other chickens I’ve done this with before. Thanks for any guidance you can give me.

Welcome To BYC

Molasses acts as a laxative. I would only give that to a constipated chicken.

What is the "recipe"? Please give us a link.

4 years old and stopped laying eggs...does she have fluid or bloated abdomen?
I would take a good guess that she's having reproductive troubles. Cancer, peritonitis, etc. can be common in laying hens.
Check her crop in the morning, it should be empty.

Sometimes the best you can do is keep a hen hydrated and see if they will eat. If they are in a state of decline and don't perk up in a couple of days, put them out of their misery.
