Here's my problem. I have one baby chick 4 weeks old. I don't leave her because I understand about the flock instinct, but I have a dr appointment out of town that will take me away for four hours. I can't decide if I should take her along in a bag to the doctor or leave her alone at home. Both situations would be stressful for her. I have no one to watch her while I'm gone and dr can't be cancelled.

I would say leave her home. Why do you have only 1?

I had 4 but sold three when I then needed total hip replacement and it was too much for me to manage as I was pretty much confined to my bed, but I'm up and around more now. Tonight I'm picking up 3 splash chicks and then she won't be so freaked out when I leave the room.

Ya, they don't like to be alone. She will be happier with other chicks. Are they her same age and do you have a plan for quarantine to insure your current chick doesn't catch something? I am just learning about this stuff and hadn't done it in the past. But sounds like it might be important. Sometimes life gets in the way of our plans....

What kind of splash? Yay, chicks!

Hi. I will keep my paint baby separate from the others. I'm getting the mama hen too. It will be fun getting to know her snd gaining her trust. She has two blue splash and two blue babies so I'll get more than I thought. I'm so looking forward to watching her raise her babies!
