Found one of my 7 week old pullets dead this morning. :( of course we are attached to all of our chicks because we hatched them ourselves. They seemed totally fine yesterday. I looked through their cage and I did see one spot that looks bloody so I'm assuming it's Cocci?

They are still on medicated feed but they have been going outside every day. There is a very large wild turkey population in our neighborhood. I had to get to work but the other chickens seem OK so far.

I'm going to have my husband go get some Corid this morning. Hoping it's not too late for everyone else..

You may be right about Cocci, but sometimes birds just die from a hidden defect just as people do. I'm not suggesting that you not be concerned about disease; just that there is the possibility that it isn't a disease that can spread.

I'm dealing with what I think may be cocci at present. I took cotton balls and swiped up the stool specimens and put them into glass jars. I'll be mailing them off the the local agricultural lab for tests.

Meanwhile, I'm starting the whole flock on Corid. Two hens seem to be affected, but so far my two-month old chicks seem fine. But two hens are listless.

Wild turkeys are always coming around, and my chickens even hang out with them.

Consider separating the sick birds from the flock; one death and two sick-it's a sure bet that there is a disease. Good luck.

So far everyone else is still standing. I'm going to be so sad if another one goes down.
