We have 5 chickens. 3 hens and 2 roosters, but one of the hen is maybe transgender. The other rooster is still growing, 2.5 months and so are the other 2 chickens. So we have a hen and a rooster, both 20 weeks. And our rooster won’t stop crowing and watching him crow our other hen starts crowing too, so does the little rooster. And our neighbors are starting to complain since they even started to crow in the middle of the night, out of no where. And imagine 3 chickens crowing— that’s a lot of noise for sure, any way I can stop them from crowing constantly? Or why are they crowing so much all the time?

Welcome to BYC. Yes, roosters crow all the time.

Especially since, at that age, you have cockerels, not roosters, and they are in competition for the only available female. All that noise is part of their teenage hormones going off AND their attempts to establish themselves as dominant.

They are likely to start fighting and/or over-mating the only girl so it would be a good idea to weed down to only one (or none), and get more females. :)

alright, thank you so much! <3

People do get attached, but I am telling you it is better to solve for peace in the flock, peace in your heart, and peace in the neighborhood. The crowing is a big problem, but it is not the only problem roosters cause.
  • 2-3 roosters are not going to work, they are much more likely to cause a lot of problems with the neighbors, with each other, and with the hen.
  • Cull them, and get a couple more hens, a hen only flock is a very good flock to start with especially with neighbors.
Do it sooner, so they do not ruin the whole chicken experience for you.
