Hey everyone. I am new.. I joined to try and get some help/info. I just recused two ducks from a person who didn't want them anymore and the one female can not use her legs. She has been trying to scoot around with her wings. I ran a warm bath to try and get her to move her legs but she is just floating. She is ducking her head underwater and drinking. but no movement in the legs. She also seems very alert, eyes wide. She does not seem to be egg bound.

Glad they have found an owner who will care for them. Sounds like a niacin (vitamin B3) deficiency, and they could use some added to the water, or some brewer's yeast to the food, but I'm pretty new to this myself. I'm sure someone who's beend around longer can help. Good luck, I hope they recover!

Hmmm. Well, I've read other people say older ducks don't tend to have niacin problems. Did the owner say when this started or if anything has changed recently?

Also, if you buy niacin, make sure it is NOT flush free or extended release, those won't work.
