So I have a hen whenever I cuddle it it just makes low noises I don’t know what it means but sometimes when I pet it, it lets out like a low sound not very loud. Sometimes when my hen sees something it makes a louder low grumbling sound which I don’t see anything around or any predators. Can anyone tell me why my hen makes a low grumbling noiss when I pet it?

It’s probably just normal chicken communication. I have one that purrs like a cat when I hold it, and I have others that protest by doing a low, weird growly thing. If she is eating, drinking, pooping and acting normally, I wouldn’t worry. It takes awhile to get certified in chicken speak. I’ve been at this for 4 years and still wonder what the heck they are talking about sometimes.

One of my BA pullets would make a growly errrrrr errrrr noise, usually in the morning. Then she stopped for a few months. I hear her making it again these days. None of them are lap chickens, so it's not in response to being held or petted.
