Im new to chickens, and i was wondering if Buff orpingtons are suppose to have black, brown tail feathers.

Buff Orpingtons are a buff/biegey color. The Black Australorps, which are Orpingtons as well, will have black/brownish tail feathers. :)

Buff Orpingtons are supposed to have buff tail feathers. However, hatchery stock or non-show quality birds occaionsally get some black or browish feathers. Are you sure that your bird is a Buff Orpington? You can post on the "What Breed or Gender" thread if you're not sure, or you can post a picture here.

Yes,some may have a black mottled look to tail feathers,almost looks like mold on feathers. While not show quality,they are excellent layers and pets,very friendly/docile sweet birds.
