Hi,so yesterday I lost a hen due to gapeworms,I feel so sad because I had great breeding plans for it.but matters became worse when the other chicken might have it too cuz I hear some gargling sound when it's breathing.I know the disease is in its initial stage and I bought a worming medicine and gave it to all my chickens.will my other new hen too face the same fate
    Thanks a lot

    She might.

Now this is a sure-fire remedy for gape worms. I have used this myself on a hen we still have years after her bought with those pesky gapers.

    1. get a duck or turkey feather, or get one of her longest wing feathers.
    2. mix 4 drops of turpentine to a tablespoon of maple syrup (the clear kind).
    3. dip feather, generously into turpentine/syrup mix
    4. grab chickens beak open and thrust dipped feather down chickens neck, making sure you turn it at least 4 times (for 4 seconds) and remove feather immediately.
    5. give chicken some plain yogurt to wash down turpentine taste.
    6. gape worms should be gone in a couple of days.

Hope this helps. It helped Jeckle. She is still healthy as a horse, and hen-boss.

Yes,the symptoms have decreased considerably and its becoming more active day by day.I used the feather method.just one more question,do I need to repeat it because I can hear a very slight gurgling sound

I have a hen who has this raspy gurgling sound as well after my treatment. give that chicken some plain non-fat yogurt to help sooth the throat.
