I assume this happened while it was in the plucker. These are my first meat birds so I’m used to the “perfect” breasts you see at the grocery store.

We processed 19 chickens on Wednesday. This bird had the bruising when I was hitting it. I’ve let them rest in the fridge since then. (Three days.)

Yes, it's safe to eat. Hope you enjoy your home grown chicken.
Thank you! I ended up googling the issue and the USDA website stated it was okay too. We’ve already ventured to eat chicken livers for the first time and loved it. It’s been a rewarding process.

Not anything that isn't compensated for by paying 50 cents per pound for meat to feed growing teenage boys. 🤣

I'm looking forward to raising my own Cornish X next year, but I'm not under any illusions about saving money.

I’ve had probably 3-4 birds so far with bruising. You definitely get prettier meat from the grocery store, and it’s the same as what I grew, the Cornish Cross.
