I'm new to raising chickens. I have 8, 20 week old New Hampshire and Rhode Island Reds. A hen layed her first egg and it was soft shelled. She now looks like she has hemorrhoids from her vent. She is acting completely normal and everything but I want to know if there is anything I need to do?

It could be prolapse. I don't know anymore than that, but maybe someone else will.

We had a chick that had prolapse when she pooped. We put a lil hemorrhoid ointment on a q-tip and gently pushed it in, as the other chicks wanted to peck it. She hasn't laid yet, so [IMG] that she'll be OK. Is she getting enough calcium? Also, maybe post a pic under injuries thread (of her vent)? Maybe you'll get more answers. Good luck ~ Kim
