Hen brooding chicks AND laying eggs

My Silver Laced Wyandotte has 8 chicks she is brooding. They are almost a month old. The past 3 days she has laid an egg. None of my other broodies has ever done this ..... lay while brooding chicks. Have you experienced this?

i have got a hen currently doing the same thing at the minute i think maybe shes just happy so she lays

It's certainly unusual -- but I wouldn't put anything past chickens. If it's not possible that another hen is getting in there and laying, then I would expect her to stop mothering very soon.

KEEP her and all her pullets.... and maybe a roo! Those are genetics that I would love to have. mk
