I have a hen that walks around puffed up and making a clucking noise. The odd thing is my rooster is extremely "angry" with her and is continually attacking her when she comes by him. She doesn't do this all of the time and when she stops, the rooster is fine with her. Any idea why she is acting like this?

She probably is all charged up with broody hormones. Is she still out and about thru the day and climbing up on a roost at night? Does she already have a clutch of eggs somewhere?

Hens behave like this the few times they get off the nest when brooding and a rooster may act the same way as yours. She certainly doesn't want to have anything to do with him and her crankiness just gets him upset.

You may find that she will begin setting soon if she isn't already.

I would agree broodie. Is he like attacking her or is he trying to mate her? When i had a BO roo he would try and mate my silkie when she went broodie and she got close to him. He chased her all over, but as soon as she stopped he left her alone.
