About a week ago, my hen was attacked by something unknown and left a hole on her back. (We have no roosters). Ever since, she won't let me pick her up and if I come to pick her up, she comes at me sideways putting her head down and shuffling. I've have her since she was a day old and always held her. She used to come running to me like a puppy, she knows her name and loved to be held and I would carry her around the yard. Now she won't even come up to me. Any ideas?

She's obviously been badly scared by something and is now super nervous and defensive. I would just go gently, slowing getting her used to feeding from your hand etc etc just like you would with a new bird. Dont push it take is slow. I would imagine once she settles down again she will be back to her old self as long as you dont push it while she is a bit nervous.

Leave her alone for a while, that's what she's asking you to do.
