    Hello,
I am both new to BYC and to raising chickens. I just lost a 2 year old Cochin hen today. She seemingly dropped dead outside in the grass. Any suggestions of what may have happened?
    Thanks,
    CP

Sorry to hear that, could it be the heat? Sometimes they just drop like that no warning. sorry again.

Sorry about your hen. Probably heat or egg binding.

Is there some way to prevent/detect egg binding?

I wouldn't think it would be the heat, because it was a beautiful cool day today.

ok, is there anything that can be done? I didn't see her in distress, but I don't watch them all day.
    Thanks for your help!
