Our copper maran hatched one chick last week (then abandoned the clutch). She was mothering well but I was concerned the other girls might pick on a lone chick, so I bought a few similarly sized chicks and added them under her a few nights ago. She’s a great mom and caring for them all. My concern is with a cold weather forecast for later this week (rain and low 40s/possibly high 30s at night). The regular hen house is too far off the ground, so she has a rain and wind proof 2x2 area filled with bedding. Will the chicks stay warm enough under her with the wet/cold weather? I’d rather not put out a heat lamp due to fire hazard but will if it’s necessary. Thanks for the advice!
