We have Buff Orps and Barred Rocks. My wife and I were sitting on the porch feeding our chickens some grains. All of a sudden we noticed one Barred Rock backing up with her head lowered. What does this mean, or has she just learned to do the moon walk? [IMG] [IMG]

If the rooster was nearby, that hen could be telling him to back off - she wanted no loving. She might be ready to go broody.

[IMG] Thank you MareeZoCool. I had no idea why she would do that. The rooster was right next to her. I hope she doesn't go broody. [IMG]

I really was hoping someone would know about the moon walking thing. I have a three year old hen (no rooster around) who is molting and has started moon walking backward 4 to 6 steps and kind of squatted down with her head held low. Any one?
