For Black Sexlinks, you are right. Males have white bars on the feathers, females do not. We’re new to chickens. We read that black sex linked Roos are only barred. Is this incorrect?
We got 6 “black sex link pullets” at Tractor Supply. This black one is just WAY bigger than the others and has this huge comb and wattles. The barred ones have a very small comb. Everything we have read say that all the black sex link makes are barred, but females can be too and then it says that the females are black with red/orange feathers around the neck. Unfortunately, we can’t keep Roos and then black one is my 5 year old boys favoriteFor Black Sexlinks, you are right. Males have white bars on the feathers, females do not.
Your chicken is male, has no white bars, and is not a Black Sexlink. Someone must have made a mistake when they told you what it was.
Where did you get this chicken?
I happened to snap a pic of one of them walking away so there’s a foot. This black hen was bought from the same batch as “Brielle”.Can you check bottoms of feet? If they're white/pink he's a Marans which I bet would be easier to rehome due to an increase in demand for them lately. Can you send pictures of other pullets and check their feet as well? He may be the odd one out, or they may all be the same, mislabeled breed
