We're starting to think that one of our White Leghorns is a rooster! We heard him practicing his crowing this morning. What do you guys think?

That's what I thought, but I'm in denial! When is a good time to cull young roosters? He is only 9 weeks old. Are they good to eat this young?

Sadly not a lot of meat on leghorns especially at this age. I grew up down the road from a somewhat small scale egg producer lady. She used to give us all her cockerels, and we would grow them out as fryers - never did fill out enough for roasters.

Maybe you could spare his life and give him away.

We found him a new home. After thinking about it, I couldn't kill my Foghorn, he's family. Here he is at his temporary home in Sacramento, his final home will be on a farm in Marysville, CA. He will be so happy living on a farm! [IMG]
