My flock started maturing around July/August, and I have some very dedicated layers. It seems like a couple are still not laying yet, but since I've seen posts where someone has a 9 mo old hen who still isn't laying yet, I'm not too worried (they are 7 mo old now).
But the behaviour that I'm stumped by is this: I have one hen (Bertha) who will sit in the nests for hours, even forgoing foraging time (They aren't free range so the time that they get to forage in the yard is very important to the flock). But anytime I check the nest for an egg from here - nothing, nada, zip!
She's been doing this for nearly 3 months now. When she first started, I thought that eggs from her would be on their way, but nothing so far.
She's also not displaying any broody behaviour. She just sits there. Has anyone else ever had a hen do this?
