One of my hens of the Missouri Dominique project is starting into her third brood of the season. A single daughter from each of the previous broods is free-ranged with her while the cock used to breed is penned by himself except for conjugal visits with the hens of the project. Yesterday the hen with younger offspring attending started spending time around cock pen and he did the nest site over hear display. I let him out and they mated. This morning the hen began producing the egg song so I got out a new nest which she promptly checked. A couple hours later she laid an egg into it. Now she drives the younger offspring away from her. After dark the young pullet was roosting with its older sister rather the mother which was all night prior. Younger is about 4 weeks old.
