Hen Terrified of Rooster; Behavior Advice or Good Chicken Recipe Sought...

I still say make him a small pen within your current set up, or next to it, and keep him separated while he goes through puberty for a few months. No reason you need to decide immediately his fate.

I'm going to have to sleep on it. I don't have the materials to build a separate pen, so unless I keep him in a dog crate during the day, and in the locked, covered run overnight... and how in the world would I catch him to do that. I can't close him in the run because I'd then have to get another feeder and waterer to keep outside the run, in addition to the fact the hens couldn't get into the coop to lay in the nesting boxes. But I could maybe make it work, maybe. Looks like I have more to sleep on.

My buff orp did the same thing. I replaced him with a gentle 5-6 month old english orpington cockerel, he is such a gentleman still learning the flock. He is attracted to my dominant hen shes never had a rooster woo her like he does. Even my roos that are his age dont mess with big ol momma hen, she has the spurs of a rooster but lays best. Like others have said if he gets to pushy build him a time out coop and run. I had to do that with extra cockerels whom have joined Boot Camp One Way in preparation for Camp Freezer.

Either pen him separately to grow and still see the hens, get rid him or eat him.

As for a buyer using him for cock fighting.... sorry a normal production type breed wouldn't last 20seconds against a game no chance of him being used for that if hes sold or given away.

No way would cock fighting even be an option.

Someone metioned it in a earlier post which is why i said that. No body into games would want such a breed for that purpose.

Do you happen to have a habitat for humanity store located near you? If so you can get lumber for fairly cheap. My fiance and I purchase nearly all of our lumber there. We recently build a 8x16x5.5 run with an old pump house for a well for their temp coop. We plan to expand after building more rabbit hutches.
