I have placed eggs under a broody hen and as they are hatching, another hen is muscling her way into the mother and chicks coop and acting as another mother. She is unrelenting and gentle. Is this normal for another chicken to want to adopt the other chickens babies?

It's not ABnormal. I have had two hens share chicks and a friend of mine has a hen which actually steals chicks from other hens.

As long as somebody is mothering the chicks, I never worried about it. Hopefully the Original Momma allows the dual mothering, and doesn't fight over the chicks. My friend with the chick-stealing hen has lost chicks a couple of times because the Thieving Hen picked the wrong Original Mother's brood.

If it's a partnership thing, it's all good.

So funny another hen has become broody now. I guess that's where they get the saying "getting clucky" from.
