I have a 20 week old RSL or production red hen. She got sick at16 weeks when her "sister hen" started laying. I doctored her up and she is back to her top hen status. I was doing a "butt check" today at lunch. That's what I call it so my kids will laugh at me. We pick up every chicken and look them over including the vent. My formerly sick hen had an open vent with clear liquid around it. Could this be the first egg?!?! I hope so. Her sister is like clock work, everyday on time. Also she does not act sick and has healthy appetite and bosses every one around like usual. Could it have been her flirting with me. She does squat for me, which I usually fluff the feathers on her back when she does and then she stands up and clucks a lot and shakes her feathers. I think it's cute, but the rooster is jealous. Ha, Ha
