reading the posts on the # of chickens everyone has.has got me to wanting to know the sizes of everyones henhouses.an how meny they have to house their birds.i have a 12 by 12 an a 20 by 36 henhouse.an 3 4ftw by 6ftl brooders.so that gives me room for 475 hens.

With 4 square feet per bird, optimal space...
12 x 12 will hold 36 standard chickens
20 x 36 will hold 180 standard chickens
34 x 6 will hold 51 standard chickens
that adds up to 267 chickens...still quite a few
I have a 4 x6 coop and I have 6 chickens...I will be building a very small tractor to add 2 bantams...

My coop is 4' x 8', and it holds 7 standards quite nicely. I would feel comfortable (based on how I see them use the space) adding no more than another 2-3.

I try to give our birds at least five square feet each, and ten is better. With plenty of room, they get along better and stink less.

We have a 10'x20' coop, and a 4'x8' tractor, and a total of twenty birds.
