Today I put my 2 Polish roos in with my variety of hens. I go out there a couple hours later and the poor polish's head feathers are picked bloody! Needless to say I removed them.

BUT- why would hens pick on roosters? Do the roos HAVE to be more aggressive?

Well, in this case, the roo was the intruder and chances are because he cannot see well with that head fluff, he got beat up. I don't do polish anymore because they just don't hold up well in a mixed flock from my expereince... If you give him a hair cut, I bet he'd stand up more and take the top rung. Also his age, if he is not old enough to be "dominant" he might not see that he's a big roo yet.
