Because I have a "stealth" situation with my chickens, I had to rehome my beautiful rooster, Tough Guy for the winter. Now that spring is trying to spring, my girls are doing the squat, and stopping right in front of me when I walk near them so that I almost step on them. I'm used to that, no problem. Sometimes I give their tail a small tug and kind of rub their back, and they feel better. I think.
Anyway, I have 2 hens that really went into the molt hard in the fall, lost almost all their feathers and are still not feathered back out. They both have become very irritable, maybe embarrassed at how they look. But recently I've seen them jump on the back of some of the other hens, holding on to the hen's neck feathers and acting just like a rooster would. If ya know what I mean. What's up with this? Is it normal at all?
