I went out tonight to put up my girls. I heard a commotion in the coop and saw two of my girls fighting. I mean their necks stretched out high with the feathers flaired out. They were really laying into each other. Then the roo got involved and one of the girls goes after him. He's a small banty rooster and the girls are normal sized hens. He goes back after her and grabs her neck feathers and yanks her off her feet to the floor. One girl decides shes done and the other kinda strutts around her pecking at her eventhough the other one is no longer a threat. I am assuming this is lead hen position fighting. None of the girls are new. They have been together for over a year. I lost my lead hen back in September and never really saw any one of the other girls step up to take her place. I also lost another hen to a hawk on Christmas Eve and we had a close call with another hawk a week later so the flock has recently been shook up. We also just cut on their heat light tonight its glow is red. We are supposed to get down to 16° tonight so we thought they might need the heat. Well we turned it off thinking they might not like it. Anyways with all that being said. Is it normal for the girls to fight and the roo to get involved? I'm assuming yes, but thought I'd ask. Thanks.
