How old are they? My gut says that both are pullets.

I can't tell either. Mine are cross breeds with the daddy being either bard rock or Rhode Island Red

They are about half a year old and they are by a
cross bred Jersey Giant cock and a Rhode Island Red

Looks like 2 lovely pullets! At 6 months, a rooster would have a lot of defining characteristics that would be easy to spot.

I like the colouring of this cross [IMG]

I'm leaning more pullet for both. My question is if they had Rhode Island Red genes in them wouldn't they have at least a few brownish red spots rather than what looks like black to me? Or are the Jersey Giant White genes that dominant it would allow only white with a teeny bit of black?

Seems when you cross most dominant white birds with pretty much any color, you get white birds with black spots like that. Thing is, the JG may be genetically black under the dominant white, you just can't see it. Black basically trumps red, so this is what you get.

Some of the others in the brood were backy with a green gleam, brownish red, pure white and white with bits of black.
So they all looked very different. Also I though this one was a cock but I'm having second thoughts. Oh and I don't think I said in the other post that the
Mother was a Rhode island red Hybrid, that's her in the bottom of the photo.

If that bird is the same age as the 2 pullets, then it looks like a rooster.
