Hens pecking bottles, bags etc

Hi! I have three ex-batts and they sometimes spend hours pecking bags, cardboard boxes, plant feed bottles - anything they can find that makes a funny noise. Does anybody have chickens that do the same? Do they just do it for fun?

Welcome to BYC!!
Some chickens are curious more than others.
You could drill some holes in a water bottle, fill it with feed, and they will scratch the bottle around to get the feed out.

Be sure they can't eat the plastic, when mine had free-ranging time they would try to eat elastic bands, polystyrene and insulation fluff....

Being ex bats, they are probably just excited to have anything to do besides being locked up and producing eggs.... even my chickens that were born here need to inspect everything new they encounter.

They'll love that xylophone!! Ours love polysterene as well and they will devour entire cardboard boxes if you forget to safely stow them away..
