Hi Big Blue Hen! We have 15 Hens and 4 Roosters.(too many I know but now i"m attached) :/ They are all 4 months old. I have straw pads and additional straw in their beds. We have 24 boxes but they all like to cram into a few. The egg appeared gently laid on the pad and slightly covered with the additional hay so it seeeeemed to be well protected except for the tiny hole in it. Thanks so much for your reply to my first ever post. I love all my little dummies and really want to do my best to give them a safe and happy life. How many chickens do you have? Sometimes an egg will look like that from a chicken stepping on it and their sharp claws poking it. She might even have stepped on it herself, hard to tell. Anyway, congrats on your first egg! You're very welcome, we're happy to have you. Seems no matter how many nests you have, they all want to use the favored ONE, lol. I think the rule of thumb is that you really only "need" about one nest to every four chickrns. But yeah, the chickens are gonna laugh at you anyway. I have 15 layers, 15 non-laying pullets and about 10 nests. But when the layers are in full production they really only use about 3 nests. Still, I like them to have options. So ...Hi Big Blue Hen!
