I just went out and purchased 7 silkies! 2, 2 week old and 5 2 month old silkies! 1 black, 1 splash and 3 paints! I'm having a very hard time sexing them and would love some help!

Greetings from Kansas, Kate, and [IMG]! Pleased you joined our community! Beautiful birds! I know nothing of silkies but I know mixing chickens of different ages can be hazardous to the younger group. You might post you pics in the link below - the folks there may be able to help you out: https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/15/what-breed-or-gender-is-this
And there are a couple silkie thread in this link: https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/14/general-breed-discussions-faq

G’Day from down under Kate [IMG] Welcome!

Best wishes to you and your Silkies. Silkies are notoriously difficult to sex and sometimes even the experts do not know for sure until that first crow or first egg.

This is the link to a fairly active Silkie thread: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/297632/silkie-thread

You might want to also pop in and say hello on your local thread: https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/26/where-am-i-where-are-you ‘Find your State’s thread.

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun. Unlike non chicken loving friends, family and colleagues, BYC’ers never tire of stories or pictures that feature our feathered and non feathered friends [IMG]

Teila speaks the truth. It's always a major gamble to purchase young silkies IF you cannot keep cockerels, it would be good if you figured out a plan B for them.
