We live in the heart of Atlanta within walking distance to many places - and have a little farm in our backyard. We've had chickens for over a year now after being featured on a TV show - HGTV's Elbow Room. We've been growing our own food for a while and now love love love our chicken girls.
Started out with 2 silkies and 2 Ameracaunas. All of them lovingly named by our then 8 year old daughter. They've been some very spoiled chickens with quite a fancy life. They free ranged for a while until the hawks found us. After a few hawk attacks, we decided to stop free ranging and allow them now to move around the yard in a tractor. They actually like it better since they know they're safe.
We lost one silkie to a hawk attack. We lost one Ameracauna yesterday to a combo issue- torn acl- casted medicated- but also a broken egg inside that never came out. Heartbroken about both losses. One silkie and one Ameracauna left. We love them like crazy.
Constantly gathering more and new information about backyard chickens, we are very happy to have found y'all!
