    Hi everyone
We are in Morgan Bay, South Africa. We started with our chickens six months ago with 30 Potch Koekoek eggs and an incubator - we turned the eggs by hand three to four times a day and were rewarded with a hatch of 26 GORGEOUS Koekoek chicks. We have sold off the roosters and currently have a flock of 12 hens and two roosters which we plan to incubate and produce more Koekoeks from - the girls are busy...up to 7 eggs a day already...and the boys have been busy for some time already so we are hoping it will be a successful endeavour!! We also do broilers for commercial reasons - the first batch we produced from eggs that we incubaed ourselves, the hatch rate was terrible and so we bought in day olds for the next batch, it seems to be working better so far...
We have also in between incubated a batch of 200 mixed indigenous chickens and produced a mixed bag of Koekoeks, Boschvelders, a Naked Neck and some other as yet un-named hens - great fun!!! The little 3 - 6 week old fowls have been sold to various folk wanting hens for eggs - I suspect the poor roosters will end up in the pot...
We joined BYC because we are free ranging our indigenous chickens and BYC comes up in EVERY search we make looking for info on food, illnesses, etc that we have made, so we are hoping to learn a lot from your collective expertise and perhaps to connect with others in SA who we can network with :)
