Hi- we are Shannon and Kenny from Middle Tennessee and our family has just begun the chicken craze thing in the household. Happy to say we have a very diverse, young flock in the yard- with more to join since there are a bunch that are between 2 weeks and 5 weeks old in the house right now. We have silkies, some golden laced Wyandottes pullets, a speckled Sussex, cinnamon queens, comet and an Americanas pullet, 3 adorable bantams (think 2 are RIR and one black one (Jolly Rancher, Gummy Bear and Licorice), and our favorite - the most comical top hatter named Beadlejuice- all being lead by an Americanas rooster named Throttle Body (oldest at 7 ½ months) with a barred rock rooster named Alternator (6 months old) as second in command. Clearly our mornings/afternoons/nights have changed and we love watching what everyone seems to get into. Given the diversity of the flock (based on breed and age), I have really been surprised how well everyone has gotten along. Each chicken has its own personality, and some don’t seem to know they are chickens since they want to be in your lap. Anyway- don’t be surprised if we ask a lot of questions, it has been a learning experience to say the least.
