Hi all, Im new to this forum, though I have visited this website many times. The first time I incubated eggs was 10 years ago.. I set 6 eggs, and four hatched. I kept one, a black and white speckled bantam and she became a very endearing pet. The second time was around 3 years ago. This time setting 12 eggs, and having 9 hatch. After a couple of months I needed to give away all but two. I still have one of the hens. I must say it has been a bit of a ride this time...the day after I had to put down her sister a year ago, she started crowing in the morning. At first I thought she was mourning as it began as a scream, however over time it became a less blood curdling crow She also now has a large spur on one leg. I have set just 2 eggs this time round as Im looking to keep these babies myself I REALLY enjoy the process, Im thinking of offering to incubate for other people in my country town. (I actually came here tonight to say that even though you are not meant to see anything in candling before around 72 hours, at 39 hours I can see a distinct blastoderm (the donut shape) quite clearly inside one! I was not expecting that! Looking forward to the days ahead ).
