(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I'm new to chickens, and I haven't gotten any yet... I'm getting ready for them, working on my coop and chicken run. I hope to have some chicks by May 2019. I recently posted a thread "Design my coop... !?" asking for advice.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
None, but I'm planning having on a dozen or more, as space allows.

(3) What breeds do you have?
Still researching... a mix of breeds and egg colors would be nice. :)

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
They will provide enjoyment, entertainment, fresh eggs, garden support, and I will take pride in being a great care provider for them.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I like to design and build things, hike, cook organic and garden. I am a Paleo fan, and have eliminated all grains, sugar and processed "food" from my diet. In addition to losing half my weight (220 to 110), I feel about half my age (27 as opposed to my actual 54) as well! But most amazing of all, I also shed all my health issues... diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, chronic pain and depression. Now I'm super happy and healthy, and yeah, completely annoying to grumpy people. :)

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
My kids are college-age and have recently flown the coop and my boyfriend's son is full grown with his own family, so we are empty nesters. My boyfriend and I currently have no other pets but are thinking about livestock possibilities. I work a full-time day job, and my boyfriend is retired, but works full-time around the place as we continue to recover from the October 2017 wildfires. He's always working on rebuilding our home, decks and outbuildings, and clearing the many acres of burned up trees, creating firewood for winter wood stove use, and replanting trees as budget allows.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I have come across BYC many times as I research chickens and coops, and I'm excited to be a member and benefit from everyone's knowledge and experience.
:D
