Hi,,,,new member from Santa Rosa Beach FL

Some chickens that I found to be very sweet is the Plymouth Rock, and they lay a good amount of eggs, too. Buff Orpingtons are pretty gentle, too, and lay about 150-200 eggs a year. Other good hens include Silkies, Golden Laced Wyandotte, Speckled Sussex, Australorps, Welsummer, Amaraucana, Golden Comet, Cochins, Brahmas, Polish, and Faverolles. I hope you find some good breeds that work for you!

I would recommend silkies, polish, and seramas. Silkies are popular with kids since they are very fluffy, quiet, and docile, though they are not good egg layers. Polish are very funky-looking and tend to be friendly. Seramas are the smallest chicken breed with the biggest personalities. If you want a lot of eggs, polish and seramas are the best, though serama eggs are going to be small. The polish has the biggest egg out of the three.

If you want fun colored eggs, then I would also recommend easter eggers. I don't know much about them other than they can lay anywhere from pink eggs to blue eggs with speckles.
