Hi, my name is Zola. I have two pet Pekin ducks named Peggy and Gus. I live in Richmond VA. Poor Gus broke his wing and is getting it amputated tomorrow so I'll probably be posting about his recovery. And if any of y'all have experienced this, I'd love to hear from you.

HelloWelcome to BYC!! So glad to have you here!! Thanks for sharing your story!! There are many people on here that are ready to help in anyway they can! The learning center also has alot of great information on it as well! Enjoy!
Well when he broke his wing, the bone was protruding from the skin and the blood supply was cut off from the bone so the bone died. Just sewing up the wound would cause it to become an abcess. So yes, it is neccessary.
Yes I took him to a vet because he had a puncture wound and a broken wing. He wasn't eating and his poop was neon green(yikes) the vet was going to sew him up and put a bandage on him until she got a better look while cleaning his wound out. The bone was sticking out and blood supply was cut off from the bone. The bone is now dead, and just sewing it up would cause it to become an abscess. ):
