(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I'm new to chicken keeping. We just got day old chicks for the first time.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
I have five chickens.

(3) What breeds do you have?
- Fibro Easter Egger, Lavender Orpington, Blue Copper Marans, Cream Legbar, Golden Laced Wyandotte

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?

They are entertaining! Looking forward to the compost they will help make for the garden.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

Gardening and cooking.

 
Glad to meet you. Sounds like a lovely flock. Just keep the chickens out of the garden until fall! I had happy visions of gardening with chickens until I read more here. Better to let them run in other parts of your yard, and compost the poop, then let them scratch that compost in for you in the fall! They will be very happy to work for bugs!

My garden is fenced to keep deer out. Chickens will have their own area and I will be composting their bedding. I've seen what a chicken can do to a tomato (one bite out of each) in a friend's garden. Thank you for the warning!
