Hi there! I'm Leah, I thought I would join this forum to get some more information on chookies. I have 3 lovely silkies and 1 hyline (she was from a battery farm, now free ranges in my garden.) I am having a go at hatching some eggs in an incubator, had a little disaster last night as the incubator went cold! So advice needed... (will start another thread in the incubating section)
Glad you joined us! I'm sorry about the incubation problem. Hopefully, BYCers in the Incubation section can help! Good luck with your flock!
Hello there and welcome to BYC! Usually eggs can take a long cool down. The eggs are a large enough mass that they themselves hold heat a lot longer than the outside air temp. But I have heard of a 24 hour cool down, cold eggs and all, and still something hatches. Depends on how long the temps was low or off completely. Definitely post this in our Incubating Eggs forums for more input. Good luck with the hatch and we do welcome you to our flock!
Thanks for the welcome! The incubator would have stopped heating for up to 9 hours. I usually would turn them after 7-8 hours but due to a sick toddler (with chicken pox!) I didn't manage to turn them on time... oh well.
