    Hi there,

My name is Jodie. We raise German Shepherd's in Central Florida on 10 beautiful acres. We have decided to turn a 10x15 ft dog kennel in our chicken coop. I would love to hear any do's and don't's. :)

    Hi :welcome

Glad you could join the flock! Drop by the learning centre for some excellent articles on getting started raising chickens https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center

My top tips would be, keep them safe from predators, food and fresh water available at all times, a clean and dry coop and run and plenty of space for each bird so everyone can live in harmony.
Wishing you the very best of luck with your impending chicken adventure. Enjoy BYC and ask any questions you have everyone here to help you along the way and very friendly :frow

Hi and welcome to BYC from northern Michigan [IMG]

My advice would be to look in the coops section for the best way to secure your coop and pen - dog pens are intended to keep dogs in, but will not keep many predators out.

If you use a chain link kennel run, you need to back it with 1/2" hardware cloth to keep small predators from squeezing through the openings. There are usually openings around the gates and latches that need to be closed in as well.
