I have only just joined BYC and am finding the site wonderful, though a bit daunting as there is so much to see and do.

I only have two silkie chickens, 4months old. I love them both, but would like


to know if I have a Roo and a Hen, I am wishing that is what I have, but I have my doubts. They both look like Roosters. If anyone can help me I would appreciate it. Also they are both very skittish and I am unable to pick them up unless they are getting ready to roost for the night. When I go to pick them up they run away and I feel like a big meanie. So any advice on that subject would be great. Whatever my chooks are I love them to bits.

Those are gorgeous birds! I'm afraid I can't sex silkies, so I can tell you, but try the What Breed Or Gender is This? section. We have lots of silkie owners here who can assist you. To make your chickens tame give them treats, like mealworms, and try and get them to come eat from your hand. It'll take time, but it usually works for me. Also spend as much time as you can spare just sitting with them, talking to them etc. Let them get used to you.
 
I will do this with the mealworms as I so want to have them tame. I do sit with them and talk to them, and they know my voice so I guess that ils a start. I will check the breeds section and see how I get one.

! Great to have you here. Beautiful silkies!! Sorry I can't help with gender....I X2 what sumi advised. You are right...BYC seems daunting at first but very soon you'll be an old hand. Best of luck to you!
