What is the highest healthy percentage of protein for chicks? Setting aside the issues of blackhead (of which I am well aware) I would like to brood my three-week old chicks and my baby heritage poults together. Is there any way the chicks can eat the higher-protein feed poults require?

    Thanks.

    This is a very interesting question so here's a bump ^ ^

I'm feeding my young pullets 22% crumble. However I really do need to do more research on this topic.

The chicks cannot really use the extra protein so it is wasted on them, but you can brood chicks and poults together and feed them all gamebird starter (28-30% protein). I would not keep them on it however past six to eight weeks at the most however. Beyond that point you need to bring the protein down to under 24% and preferably to 20% to give their skeletal structure time to catch up.
